The Lord has asked me to ask What if……
The Body of Christ chose to focus on Jesus’s Sermon on the Mount? What if that was the platform for our engagement with one another and the world around us?
Do you think that maybe people would see the real Jesus and be drawn to him because they could see the light of Christ in us and hear of his love?
Do you believe that maybe we would see others more fully? Perhaps we would even relate to each other looking through the lens of Jesus’s teaching? Would we not only not want to murder….but would we choose to love and not hate….even our enemies?
What would outsiders see when they looked inside the church? What if what we taught was in line with what Jesus said? What if they saw worshippers of Christ, righteous because of Christ and not worshippers of self-righteousness?
How do we present this good news? Do we present it as a beautiful banquet where all are invited, or do we present this good news on stale mouldy bread? What impact might that have on those who worry about their life, what they will eat or what they will wear? Will they even know that God is their provision?
If we declare that the Christ is good news for all… but then exclude, have we now then become judge? What did Jesus say in his sermon about judgement?
And if we don’t tell this truth, is there any truth at all in us? Are we not then false prophets and teachers?
What if God were to treat us as we have treated others?
So my friends in Christ with all these what if’s perhaps now is the time to ask……What now?
What can we do to properly represent Christ? How do we recover? Can the beatitudes help us to do this?
Let us now understand our spiritual poverty and repent.
Let us now mourn our disobedience and understand that the power granted us as God’s children is meant to serve others out of a heart filled with love and compassion. Let us now understand that once we understand this, we will see more power poured out in service to others.
Let us seek righteousness now from the hand of God and give thanks for his mercy by extending mercy.
Let us now come to him with childlike faith and purity of heart.
Let us now understand that we may be persecuted rather than persecuting….rejoice now with me…. because we will have not only made peace with others but we will now have peace with God.
In August we will explore….What next?
